Swami Vivekananda (12 January 1863 – 4 July 1902) was a Hindu monk and one of the most prominent spiritual leaders of India. He was born in Kolkata (formerly Calcutta) in a middle-class family. His birth name was Narendra Nath Datta. He was the disciple of the Indian mystic Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, and with his teachings, he brought the ancient Indian philosophy of Vedanta and Yoga to the Western world.
